Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) attached to the Anambra State Police Command have recovered two AK-47 rifle magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and other police-related items during a raid on a suspected cultists’ hideout in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, which was carried out on the evening of June 20, 2026, targeted a notorious black spot along Nwaziki Street, Awada, believed to be a haven for cult-related criminal activities.
Although no arrests were made during the raid as the suspects reportedly fled before the operatives arrived, the police said investigations have commenced to identify and apprehend those behind the hideout.
The Command also disclosed that efforts were ongoing to establish the ownership of the recovered exhibits and dismantle any criminal network linked to the items.
Commending the operatives for the successful intelligence-led operation, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, lauded their professionalism and commitment to tackling violent crimes across the state.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain aggressive raids on criminal hideouts and ensure that cult groups and other violent offenders have no safe haven in Anambra.
The police assured residents that ongoing operations aimed at rooting out criminal elements would continue as part of broader efforts to guarantee the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
